The JFS Jewish Big Pal Program is designed to match local Jewish children ages 6 - 16 with Jewish adult “pals” who can help provide guidance, stability and mentoring during the children’s formative years.

Big Pal volunteers are asked to make a commitment of a least one year, dedicating a minimum of six hours per month to spend with the child. This ensures the consistency and stability of an adult figure in the lives of the children.

Activities are geared to the child’s interests and may include movies, sports or other cultural and recreational excursions. Parents cover children’s expenses and low cost or no cost activities are encouraged.

All prospective Big Pal volunteers are rigorously screened to protect the children. Volunteers’ driving and car insurance records are examined and they are required to submit to a Department of Justice fingerprint background search. They must also provide three references.

If you are interested in participating in the Jewish Big Pal Program, please contact JFS at (760) 325-4088.
