FOOD VOUCHERS
JFS can provide emergency assistance for food to low income Coachella Valley residents. Grocery store gift card vouchers are available from local supermarkets with varied locations in the desert. Funding for this program is limited and emergency assistance is based on available funding.
To be eligible to receive food vouchers, household income must be no more than 200% of the Federal Poverty Level based on family household size. Food vouchers are intended as emergency stop gap measures for individuals and families facing unusual financial hardship. The vouchers are not intended for regular supplement of a household’s food purchasing ability.
For more information on obtaining emergency food vouchers, contact JFS at (760) 325-4088.

TZEDAKAH GIFT GIVING
The Tzedakah Gift Giving Program enables JFS supporters to make a difference in the lives of those less fortunate in our community who are experiencing economic hardship during the year-end holiday season. All giving is conducted anonymously.
Through the program, low-income families and seniors are able to request up to three gifts. Donors who participate in the program purchase gifts on the list and deliver them to JFS. The families and seniors come to JFS right before the holiday season to collect their gifts.
Requests from children range from toys to music players to art supplies. For seniors, the “gifts” are more likely to be basic necessities of life, including grocery store cards, household items and supplies.
Participants do not have to be Jewish to receive gifts.
To participate in the Tzedakah Gift Giving Program as a donor or recipient, please contact JFS at (760) 325-4088. |
| The Hebrew word Tzedakah is often interpreted as “charity”, yet the actual translation is righteousness, fairness or justice. In 12th century Egypt, Moses Maimonides, one of history’s most preeminent Jewish philosophers, compiled a fourteen volume code of Jewish religious law, the Mishneh Torah. In it, he lists eight levels of giving. Among the highest levels of giving is to give Tzedakah anonymously to an unknown recipient. |
