Rancho Mirage Elementary will receive in-school counseling thanks to a grant from the city of Rancho Mirage.
The city awarded $2500 to Jewish Family Service, which runs Kids First. The in-school counseling program will provide a licensed marriage and family therapist at the school three hours a week through the end of the school year.
“We’re very appreciative to the city of Rancho Mirage,” said Dan Bass, executive director of Jewish Family Service. “It’s an opportunity to partner with them and provide needed counseling services to the youth in their city.”
The therapist will meet with students on a voluntary basis, as recommended by school staff and parents. Often issues discussed one-on-one with Kids First therapists include peer pressure, bullying, poor social skills, violence and academic performance.
Kids First was one of twenty-three applicants selected to receive funds from the city’s $150,000 Community Fund. About 96 applications were received.
Jewish Family Service of the Desert provides for the social-service needs of the Jewish and general community throughout the greater Coachella Valley with a commitment to promote the well-being of people of all ages, incomes and lifestyles.
