(Palm Springs, CA, May 6, 2008) Jewish Family Service of the Desert is proud to announce that the Association of Jewish Family & Children’s Agencies (AJFCA) has awarded a 2008 KOVOD Award for Excellence in Print and Electronic Publications to the agency. The presentation was made at the AJFCA’s 36th Annual Conference, April 13-15, 2008, in Philadelphia, Penn. The AJFCA is a membership organization of more than 135 Jewish Family and Children’s Agencies, and specialized Jewish human service agencies, in the United States and Canada. Member JFS agencies provide social services to children, adults and the elderly in the Jewish and general community.
JFS of the Desert was awarded a plaque for Excellence in Website Design. The site, www.jfsdesert.org, is designed and maintained by Susan Bryck with Prinet in partnership with JFS of the Desert’s marketing and public relations agency, The Branding Iron. Judy Wallis is the president of the local agency and Dan Bass its executive director.
The winners of the AJFCA KOVOD Award competition were determined by an independent panel of judges who evaluated submissions from agencies in the United States and Canada. The awards’ criteria were creativity, design, effectiveness and writing/substance.
Each year, three or four categories are selected for the competition and agencies may submit in more than one category. Past categories for the KOVOD Award, established in 1993, have included Agency Newsletters, General Fund Raising Materials, Special Events Brochures and Endowment Brochures. With the recognition of e-mail as an informational and fund raising tool, KOVOD now recognizes electronic publications and agency websites.
The successful agencies’ communication and marketing skills were prominently displayed in the Delegates Lounge at the AJFCA’s Philadelphia Conference for all participating agencies to view and compare. AJFCA encourages conference delegates to adapt displayed materials to publicize their own programs.
